Every year at the annual PYHA banquet there are elections for board members. This year we have quite a few candidates that are running for a position on the board. They have provided a quick introduction for you to review on who they are and why they are running.
Dear Peoria Youth Hockey Association Board,
I would like to express my interest in becoming a board member for the Peoria Youth Hockey Association and would love the chance to give back by lending my skills to help the organization. I currently work for Caterpillar and the Caterpillar Foundation where I have responsibly over U.S. and international investments in community nonprofit programs with a focus on compliance and fiscal due diligence.
I am an active member in the community and have served on committees with the America Red Cross, volunteering at my children’s school and currently serve on Heart of Illinois United Way Funding Allocation Committee.
My husband and I have 2 children in the PYHA program and have enjoyed numerous friendships built over the years with our time spent at the rink. My son will start his 5th year in the fall (2nd yr. Squirt) and is currently on the travel team. Our daughter will start her 3rd year in the fall (1st year Mite). Both my husband and I grew up with sports as a part of our childhood. I believe the life lessons I learned in youth sports were just as valuable as the fundamental skills of the sport itself.
I look forward to the opportunity to support the kids in the program and make an impact on the organization.
I have been on the P.Y.H.A board for the last three years. During that time I have learned a lot about how the organization runs and the time and energy it takes for the volunteers to keep it running as one of the best organizations in Illinois. I am currently in charge of equipment and have enjoyed working with both sides of P.Y.H.A. with jerseys and rentals and all the other exciting things that have to do with equipment. I have also organized and ran the golf outing for the last two years which has raised more than $14,000 to help benefit our costs throughout the organization including our mini mite program. My main goal is to one day next president of this great organization, but until then I would like to be around and help pitch in any way I can. I grew up playing hockey in Peoria on the house league side and now have kids that play both travel and house. It is important to me to do as our mission statement says and make sure if kids around Peoria want to play hockey we provide a chance for them to do just that. Thank you for your consideration and your vote for my board application.
I would be honored if you allowed me to re-run for the board position that i have held for the past few years. I would also like to hold my position as the Chairman of Rules & Ethics if that would be a possibility... Thank you for time.
I would like to formally express my interest in becoming part of the PYHA board. As a native of Peoria and mother of two budding hockey stars, I feel that I would be a great fit for the position. Growing up in Peoria and now raising my family here, I am invested in giving back to the community. I also have extensive experience in various leadership positions and committees at OSF Healthcare. I hope that I will be able to bring both my professional experience and commitment to my children’s athletic futures to this role. Although I have a demanding career s a Physician in the community, I attend each of my son’s practices and games. I have been very impressed with the PYHA organization and would love to be a part of its growth and future. I hope that you will take my application into consideration.
My name is Jenny Kravetz and I’m running for a second term on the PYHA board.
I have been on the board for 3 years and during that time have coordinated the Used Equipment Sale, end of the year banquet and assisted with concussion management under the direction of Greg Eberle.
I have kids who play both at the house and travel levels so I’m a presence at the rink nearly every night!
I would appreciate your vote so I can retain my position on the board and continue to help build a better organization!
My name is Eric Miller. I am a mite coach and have a first year mite. This is my fourth consecutive year coaching. I am interested in running for Pyha board because I have a lot of good ideas that I feel could help the organization and make things run a little smoother. I also would like to be able to bring concerns from parents before the board in hopes that I could get them some answers. Thank you for your time and I look forward to the future of hockey in Peoria.
James (JP) Fitzgerald
My name is James (JP) Fitzgerald and I’m submitting my name for the PYHA Board. I played youth hockey in the PYHA for 15 years from 1992-2007, and I played at all levels within the organization – house, travel (CIHL, NIHL, and CSDHL), and high school (Notre Dame). After PYHA, I played 4 years of ACHA hockey (2007-2011) - two years at University of Illinois and two years at Bradley University. In 2013, I took over as the head coach at Bradley University, and I’ve been leading that program for the last 5 years. During that time, I’ve had responsibility for player development, coaching, recruiting, staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and marketing/social media. In my 5 years coaching at Bradley, we’ve grown the program from 12 skaters to 35 skaters, and we just added a 2nd team this season due to the tremendous growth we’ve seen.
I’m submitting my name for the board because I’d like to get involved with hockey in Peoria from a different perspective. During my time at Bradley, I’ve made a lot of connections with many youth coaches and players from around the country, and I’ve had a chance to see what some other programs are doing. Hopefully I can provide some perspective having grown up through the PYHA organization and having had the chance to interact with parents/coaches/players from other organizations through my time at Bradley.
Hi my name is Tracy Miller. I would like to run for the PYHA board. I’ve been volunteering in the roles of team managing of my child’s team and being the current Mite Jamboree Coordinator. I have seen things that I like that the PYHA does and I see room for improvement. I feel I could bring a lot to the table if elected.
If you are interested in coaching a travel team with PYHA for the 2018/2019 season at the AA level, please fill out the application below and email it to VP of Travel Jeff Peterson at email@example.com. Application period is open until 03/01/2018. Thank you!
PYHA's PeeWee Major 2005 team took first at the 6th annual Minnesota Gone Wild hockey tournament, Blaine, Minn. They beat a field of nine teams in the four-day tournament, allowing only six goals in five games. Teams came from all over the Midwest and Canada to compete in one of the premier 12U tournaments. This is the team's second tournament win after winning the Nation's Cup over Thanksgiving where they and other teams from the USA competed head to head against teams from Canada.
PYHA would like to identify and track our former players who are playing at the "next level". Please let us know if you or your child has played or is currently playing at the junior, college, or professional levels. We would like to post the names of these players as well as the organizations they moved on to on the website and at the rink. Please contact Brad Mitchel at firstname.lastname@example.org.
